The India AMR Innovation Workshop (IAIH Workshop), conducted under the aegis of the India Antimicrobial Resistance Innovation Hub (IAIH) initiative supported by the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser (PSA), Government of India, was held on 3rd July 2025 at the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Platforms (C-CAMP), Bengaluru.
The workshop convened a diverse group of national and international stakeholders from the health, agriculture, environment, and biotechnology sectors to deliberate on strengthening India’s innovation ecosystem for combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR) through a One Health approach.
The inaugural session featured a keynote address by Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, who shared valuable insights on fostering scientific collaboration, promoting innovation, and ensuring policy alignment to effectively address AMR challenges.
Dr. Hafsa Ahmad, Scientist ‘D’ from the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser, participated as a panelist in the session titled “Innovating Across One Health: IAIH’s Strategic Initiatives in Environment, Human, and Animal AMR.” She contributed perspectives on the strategic priorities of IAIH and highlighted the critical role of inter-sectoral collaboration in advancing AMR research and innovation.
The workshop also featured key panel discussions on “Tackling AMR in India: A One Health Approach Across National and State Levels,” which explored opportunities for strengthening coordination between national and sub-national efforts, as well as discussions on leveraging global innovation ecosystems to accelerate context-specific AMR solutions for India. Additionally, best practices from innovation-driven programs worldwide were examined to inform India’s AMR response. The workshop concluded with a strong consensus on the need for coordinated, multi-sectoral action, underscoring the importance of integrating innovation with policy frameworks to effectively address antimicrobial resistance.
