overview

Menthol mint (Mentha arvensis) is an annual aromatic crop grown for essential oil used in pharmaceuticals, flavoring, and perfumery. India leads global production and export of natural menthol. CSIR-CIMAP has developed high-yielding varieties. Propagated via suckers, the crop yields 200 kg/ha from two harvests, generating net returns of around ₹1,00,000/ha. Post-harvest support includes improved distillation units, marketing assistance, and value-addition options to enhance profitability.
