Sona 40, developed from N-2-4-1, yields 33.61 t/ha with heavier bulbs (73.3 g), better skin retention, and lower purple blotch (24.2%). Maturing in 118 days, it shows higher TSS (12.19%), minimal splitting (3.23%), and good storage. Trials by BSKKV, NHRDF, and KVK Sultanpur confirmed high yield, low weight loss, and adaptability, with reduced Stemphylium blight and thrips.
