NCBS & JNCASR working on epidemiological modelling

by
PSA Content Team
Mukund Thattai, Sandeep Krishna, and Madan Rao of the National Centre for Biological Sciences- Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (NCBS-TIFR), in collaboration with Srikanth Sastry of Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), are working on mathematical models of the COVID-19 spread, including agent-based models and course gained epidemiological models.

These will be matched to national level quantitative data on COVID-19 spread to provide recommendations on outbreak suppressions. In addition, a team led by Upinder Bhalla and Sanjay Sane of NCBS is also working on an olfactory test for anosmia, which can identify clusters of potential COVID-19 and high-risk individuals. The global pandemic COVID-19 has reached unprecedented international spread and cases are still being reported. Institutes with cutting-edge capabilities like NCBS and in Stem will have a significant impact in responding to this crisis.

The capacity of these institutes to contribute to the national response has been possible by donors who share their vision and want to work towards a common goal. Partners, such as Punjab National Bank (PNB), the Azim Premji Foundation, Standard Chartered Global Business Service, and the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) are among those whose objectives of success include the well-being and health of the greater populace.
