  • Working Group (WG1) on Strategic Technologies, Digital Governance and Digital Connectivity
  • Working Group (WG2) on Green & Clean Energy Technologies
  • Working Group (WG3) on Trade, Investment & Resilient Value Chains

The India-EU TTC (WG2) is co-chaired by Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India from Indian side and DG (R&I), EU from European side. The WG 2 focuses on green and clean technologies, including investment and standards, with emphasis on research and innovation (R&I), identifying areas of mutual interest for collaboration and implementation (e.g. clean energy, waste management, circular economy, plastic and litter in the ocean), cooperation between EU and Indian incubators, SMEs and start-ups working in these areas and building human resource capability and capacity in such technologies.

Key Activities/Engagements

  • First Ministerial Meeting of India-EU TTC
  • International Workshop on Green & Clean Energy Technologies
  • Second Ministerial Meeting of India-EU TTC
  • The inaugural Ministerial meeting of India-EU TTC was held in Brussels on 16 May 2023, where all the three working groups under TTC set out their cooperation on a wide range of issues including semi-conductors, high-performance computing, digital public infrastructures, clean energy technologies, supply chain resilience and trade issues. The meeting was co-chaired on the Indian side by External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr. S. Jaishankar, Minister of Commerce & Industry (CIM) Shri. Piyush Goyal and Shri. Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Electronics and Information Technology. Executive Vice-President of the European Commission, Ms. Margrethe Vestager and Mr. Valdis Dombrovskis co-chaired the meeting from the European side. They were joined by High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Mr. Josep Borrell, as well as Commissioner for Internal Market, Mr. Thierry Breton.

In this meeting, India and EU have converged on a Work Plan including three main actions to start with:

Action 1: Tackling waste management, of water and plastic litter and waste to including for energy and marine plastic pollution

Action 2: E-mobility, battery performance and recycling

    Action 3: Standards.

This Work Plan was also endorsed in this meeting .

Call for Expression of Interest (EoI) from Indian Start-ups and Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs)

Matchmaking Event on Battery Recycling Technologies for Electric Vehicles organized by India-EU TTC Working Group 2 (WG 2) on the Green & Clean Energy Technologies.

The Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India announces the Matchmaking Event on Battery Recycling Technologies for Electric Vehicles, under the aegis of India-EU TTC Working Group 2 on Green & Clean Energy Technologies. This event is part of a broader effort to promote sustainable innovation and forge stronger economic relations with the European Union.

The matchmaking event, scheduled for 20th June, 2024 (tentative) provides a platform for Indian startups in the field of Electric Vehicle (EV) Battery Recycling Technologies to pitch their innovative solutions and engage with venture capitalists/solution adopters. The objective is to forge strategic partnerships and explore potential investment avenues, reflecting the shared commitment of India and the EU to a sustainable and greener future.

India's burgeoning EV battery recycling market, expected to leap from 2 GWh in 2023 to 128 GWh by 2030, represents a significant growth sector. The matchmaking event is geared towards supporting Indian startups that are pioneering in this space, providing them an opportunity to showcase their cutting-edge technologies and solutions to a global audience.

Benefits of the event:

  • Validation of the potential solution for application in the Indian/EU market
  • Opportunity to pitch to stakeholders from the Battery Recycling Ecosystem
  • Matchmaking with solution adopters, influencers, policymakers, and potential clients in the Battery Recycling Ecosystem (in total six start-ups will be selected for the matchmaking event).
  • From the six start-ups, three start-ups will be selected to visit Electric vehicle battery recycling facilities and meet with stakeholders in the EU and receive financial support for that trip (travel and subsistence) as a reward.
  • Access and insight into the broader EV landscape of India and EU

This initiative is in line with India's environmental goals and its pursuit of Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India), as it facilitates the exchange of knowledge and expertise, contributing to the circular economy and reducing the environmental impact of EV batteries.

Interested startups/SMEs are invited to submit their expressions of interest (EoI) by 30th April, 2024 and send the duly filled EoI document to this email id: india-eu-ttc-psa@gov.in.

To participate in the event, please download the EoI document from the following link
