The Government of India established the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser (PSA) in November 1999. The PSA’s office aims to provide pragmatic and objective advice to the Prime Minister and the cabinet in matters of Science and Technology. The Office of PSA was placed under the Cabinet Secretariat in August, 2018.
Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood is currently serving as the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India.

- As Chief Executive of Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme (IGMDP), he developed the Indigenous Guided Missiles at Defence Research and Development Organisation
- Created Research Centre Imarat for advanced technologies
- Was the Scientific Adviser to Defence Minister and Secretary, Department of Defence Research & Development between 1992-1999
- Became the 11th President of India on 25th July 2002

Prof. K. VijayRaghavan

- A Bachelor of Technology graduate in Chemical Engineering from IIT Kanpur in 1975
- Completed doctoral work in 1983 in the field of Molecular Biology. A PhD from the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research.
- Worked as a Research Fellow from 1984 to 1985 and then as a Senior Research Fellow from 1986 to 1988, at the California Institute of Technology
- In 1988, joined the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research as a Reader.
- Instrumental in establishing the National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS) in Bengaluru in 1992, under the aegis of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR)
- Undertook in-depth research to understand the important principles and mechanisms that control the nervous system and muscles during development, and how these neuromuscular systems direct specific locomotory behaviours.
- Former Director of the National Centre for Biological Sciences, Bengaluru. Currently serving as Emeritus Professor

Prof K. VijayRaghavan is a distinguished professor in the field of developmental genetics and former director of the National Centre of Biological Sciences. His fields of specialization are developmental biology, genetics, and neurogenetics.
Prof. VijayRaghavan graduated with a Bachelor of Technology degree in Chemical Engineering from IIT Kanpur in 1975
Completed his doctoral work in 1983 in the field of Molecular Biology and holds a PhD from the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research
Worked as a Research Fellow from 1984 to 1985 and then as a Senior Research Fellow from 1986 to 1988, at the California Institute of Technology.
