The Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India convened the first review and follow-up meeting on the proposed National Initiative on Cell and Gene Therapy (CGT) under the chairmanship of Prof. Ajay K. Sood, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, and Dr (Mrs.) Parvinder Maini, Scientific Secretary. The meeting brought together senior representatives from the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Department of Science & Technology, Government of India (DST), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO), Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) and Department of Pharmaceuticals to review progress towards operationalizing the national initiative. Discussions focused on the evolving CGT landscape, ongoing institutional efforts, regulatory pathways, and the roadmap for advancing an integrated, mission-mode ecosystem for cell and gene therapies in India.
